While Brigitte and I were walking to the Iron Shore to watch the Cayman sunset, I noticed this little boy playing in the sand. It was interesting watching him as he was entertaining himself with no toys; it was just him, the sand and the gentle swaying of the waves which washed away his creations and provided him with a fresh start.Strobist Information: Canon 5D Mark II, 24 mm f1.2L, Natural light

In the 2008 Cayman Islands Cardboard boat race, a team from Japan had entered with this beautiful looking boat. Unfortunately, their boat did not do so well; as can be seen here at the starting line, it is starting to tip, even with a little help from their friends. To their credit they pulled and dragged the boat around the course.

Strobist Information: Canon 30D, 85mm f/1.2L Lens and Natural light.

This photo is of the 2008 Cayman Islands Pirates Festival Cardboard Boat Race. The winners, seen here in the far left corner of the photo on their way back, won the race for the second year in a row. Some teams such as Hadsphaltic (the one in the bottom right corner), were not so lucky. The race took place with the Jewel of the Sea and her passengers visiting Cayman Islands for the festivities.

Strobist Information: Canon 30D, 85mm f/1.2L II with natural light. Post processing included desaturating the blues so the teams and their boats stood out.

The Cayman Islands' Photography Club held our Christmas windup on December 16, 2009 at the Breezes restaurant in downtown George Town. I have the feeling the restaurant staff did not know what hit them with so many cameras in one place.

It was the club's annual Christmas party and spouses were invited. They are actually invited to all club meetings, but some how just do not make it out.

Brigitte and I were talking to Lee and his wife when Lee mentioned that he can't remember the last time him and his wife had their photo taken together as he is normally on the other side of the camera.

I was only too happy to take a photo of the lovely couple.

Strobist Information: Canon 5D Mark II, 24mm f/1.4L II, Inside with no flash at ISO of 1600 (with no noise reduction applied)

Yesterday I posted a photoshopped photo of Lee as Dorian Gray. Personally, when I view a finished product, I would also like to see what the photo looked like before. Accordingly, today I have posted the original, untouched, photo for you to see along side the finished product.

I hope you like it.

A few months back Paul Aiken challenged everyone in the Cayman Islands Photography Club to recreate a movie poster. I was unfortunately unable to do so at the time but thought it was a great project for when I had some time.

Fast forward to Christmas 2009 and I had 4 days off which I spent a significant part expanding my Photoshop knowledge. One of the items that I produced is today's photo of Lee.

My inspiration came from the Dorian Gray Movie that was released 09.09.09: http://www.imdb.com/media/rm44665088/tt1235124.

I used two different patterns for the face, one can be found here: http://madamgrief-stock.deviantart.com/art/Texture-10-90822803

Strobist Information: Canon 5D Mark II, 85mm f/1.2L II, Inside Light at ISO 1600. No noise reduction...but lots of Photoshopping :-)

Every November for as long as people here can remember, the Cayman Islands have hosted a Pirates Festival. As the 2009 festival is quickly approaching I thought it would be nice to devote this weeks photos to the 2008 Cayman Islands Pirates Festival.

The costumes are one of the amazing features of the festival. Today's photo of a gentlemen who went all out...just look at those eyes!

Strobist Information: Canon 30D, 85mm f/1.2 L II Lens and Nature Light

Today's photo is very different from the usual in that it is an X-ray of my right repaired collarbone. For those following my written blog, I have been discussing my experiences after breaking my collarbone in June 2009. You can now see the great job that Dr. David Sanders did. I can also say that I officially have a screw loose :-) If you look closely, at the top left corner, you will see one of the screws has lifted slightly. I don't think it is anything major, but we will find out next week when I see the surgeon.Strobist Information: Canon 5D Mark II, 135mm f/2L, with the x-ray tapped to the inside of an outside window.
