Miss Cayman - B&W

With the Miss Universe pageant yesterday evening, I thought it would be fitting to post a photo of Miss Cayman whom I had the pleasure of photographing early this year. It was an absolutely wonderful photo shoot with my good friend and fellow photographer, Paul Aiken. The model was Nicosia (Miss Cayman). The shoot included an Alienbee 1600 in an Octabox camera left, an Alienbee 800 in a softbox camera right and a SB800 to the right and behind Nicosia. They were shot with the my Canon 5D MK II and 85mm f /1.2L II using Pocket Wizards.

In this photo shoot we decided to really go all out with the make-up. I also tried something different and created a really shallow depth of field (right eye sharp, left eye blurry). Strobist info: Shot in the studio with a Canon 5D Mark II, 85mm 1.2/L lens, Pocket Wizard and Alien Bee 1600 and 800.

ARtistic at the Beach

I will be the first to say that the processing is very different for a model photo. I like it but I know that it is not for everyone. Strobist info: Natural light from 18:15 sun camera left through a diffuser. Canon 5D MII, 85mm 1.2. Post processing done in Lightroom with the final touches in Photoshop CS3.

Refreshing and Cool

This was one of the last shots in the photo shoot. It was taken in the studio with the following lighting setup: Camera left – an Octabox with an Alienbee 800; Camera right – a softbox with an Alienbee 1600 and one snoot light back left. Post processing consisted of cropping and removing the box reflection from the glass.

Paul Aiken

My good friend and fellow photographer leaves the Cayman Islands with his family today for Dubai for an exciting new career opportunity. Paul is a great photographer and I have really enjoy our time together. I wish Paul and his family all the best and look forward to hearing all the exciting news from Dubai.

Caught

I love the expressions on Wil’s and Olivia’s faces. I also find the red background with the chain link fence really makes this photo pop. This photo was taken between photographing the models. Wil is a photographer who was also shooting and Olivia was the make-up artist for the photo shoot. This was taken in the studio with Alien Bees.

Abi - Storm

I am really happy with how this photo turned out. Yes, it has a lot of post processing, but I like the feel of it. As some has said, it looks very similar to Storm in the X-Men. The Photo was taken inside my house using the Canon 5D Mark II and 85mm f/1.2L II lens. The lighting was a Canon 580 EX II camera left at approximately 1/16 and a Olympus Flash camera right at approximately 1/32. Both were shot through 42″ Westcott umbrellas.

Strobist Bootcamp II - Assignment 1

This shot was taken for strobist.blogspot.com’s Boot Camp II, Assignment 1 (http://strobist.blogspot.com/2009/06/boot-camp-ii-first-assignment.html). As we were taking the "normal" headshots, Suzy commented that she free dives and has free dove to sixty feet! I can’t even image how one can do that, but needless to say I am very impressed. That got me thinking…while I am sure when they said in the assignment to "Make it Appropriate" they didn’t quite mean this, I thought what the heck and we headed out to the pool And yes, in the bottom right corner is a photo of me. The assignment also required that the model take a photo of the photographer.

Strobist Info: Shot at around 2100 Hours outside in the swimming pool with the pool light on using my Canon 5D Mark II and the new 24mm f/1.4L II lens. A Canon 580 EX II camera left at approximately 1/16 and an Olympus Flash camera right at approximately 1/32. Both were shot through 42" Westcott umbrellas.

We were originally photographing Liz (the model on the left) when I asked fellow photographer Janet to join Liz. The two of them really worked well together with a great result. We were in the studio using Alien Bees, Pocket Wizards and my 5D Mark II.

A Makeup Artist

Olivia was kind enough to allow herself to be photographed at the end of this photo shoot.

Beauty in Black and White

Mimi in Pink

Brigitte loves knitting and has created a number of beautiful outfits. However, living in the Cayman Islands she and Mimi do not have that many opportunities to wear the outfits. Nevertheless, every so often Mimi and her get together and model some of the new outfits so Brigitte can share her creations with family and friends. This Sunday was one of those days and I was enlisted as the photographer.
